5 Home Cleaning Tips for the Holidays

The holidays are a time for family, friends, and lots of food. It’s also a time for lots of cleaning in order to prepare. Here are 5 tips from the cleaning experts at NY Brite to help make your holiday cleaning a little bit easier.

1. Start with the kitchen. The kitchen is probably the most used room during the holidays, so it’s important to start there. Wipe down the counters and stovetop, and sweep and mop the floor. Clean the oven BEFORE you start cooking and baking. Sounds counterintuitive, but it will minimize the time spent cleaning up afterwards!

2. Tidy up the bathroom. The bathrooms tend to get a lot of use during the holidays, so they need to be cleaned regularly. Start by wiping down the counters and toilet, and then scrub the tub and shower. Don’t forget to clean the floor, put out a fresh container of soap.

3. Vacuum the floors. Vacuuming is a must-do during the holidays. Make sure to vacuum all of the your floors thoroughly, including the carpets and the hardwood floors.

4. Dust and vacuum the furniture. Nobody wants to see a layer of dust on your furniture, cabinets and knicknacks. Make sure to dust all of the furniture, including the tables, chairs, and shelves. Be sure to remove the cushions from sofas and chairs and vacuum underneath! Remove items from shelves and tables to dust underneath, then dust them individually before returning them to their place.

5. Clean the windows. Cleaning the windows is a great way to brighten up your home for the holidays. Make sure to use a window cleaner and a squeegee to get the job done right and avoid streaks.
